| Chapter Two |
Haisley watched cars wizz past their U-haul van that her parents had rented, before climbing into the seat behind her parents. She tossed her bag into the back, just as her dad started up the van and drove away. Haisley reached into her pocket to text her friends, but her pocket was… empty? “Ahh! Mom, I forgot my phone!” she screamed, and her mom turned around. “What?” she cried, turning to dad. “The house is locked up and ready to sell,” he said, turning to look at Haisley. “We can’t get back in.” Haisley’s eyes started watering. “What? I need my phone! I can’t do anything without it!” Mom recognized the danger signs, and jumped in, “I think I can order another one,” she said, switching on her phone. “Great – when does the fastest one come?” Haisley asked, and her mother frowned.
“A month.”
“What! I can’t wait a month!” she cried, but Mom explained, “That’s the fastest one, unless you don’t want a phone,” Dad jumped in and added, “Get her that one,” he said.
